Cabinets and Desk
Plan your cabinet and desk use in such a way that these pieces can serve double duty. For example, large armoires that you can place close to the wall can serve as closet space, a place to store books and a place to house your entertainment center. An office desk between the larger pieces of furniture, like armoires, functions as a work desk and a dressing table for guests, if you add a portable mirror.
Bed and Couch
Buy a bed that serves more than one purpose by either buying one with drawers or a trundle bed underneath. Both types of beds serve as space savers and, in the case of the bed with built in drawers, you save additional space, because you don’t need a set of drawers. Additionally, if you make your bed a daybed instead of a traditional bed, you’ll have a couch for the office that you can convert to a bed for guests.
Choose colors and fabrics that work well in both an office and a bedroom. Lighter colors will open the room up and give the appearance of space.
