How much does medicaid pay for nursing home care?

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Medicaid provided, on average, nearly 50 billion dollars for nursing home care (2006). Medicaid payments are made only to nursing facilities that can prove they provide care to Medicaid recipients, who are people with low income or who do not have many assets.
