My partner and I have been together for 6 years and I would like to surprise him with a new and modern Den, with the help of a TV show. He supported me through college for 2 years at my ripe age of 44. I would like to do something special for him.
If you were going to redesign my helmet, what would you do? Love to hear your feedback. Here’s my current design. RT http://t.co/Mbjznflus9

Sorry, but your chances of getting on such a show are slim to none. Most are set in specific areas like LA, Toronto and Vancouver, and from what I understand, most of the few people who are selected via a complicated process (and many are friends, or friends of friends, of people involved with the show). I would suggest you go to the HGTV website and see what they may have listed for information on applying for such a makeover. But don't hold your breath. Here's the link for options to apply for the various reno shows:
Looks like the only ones at the moment are in LA, NYC and North New Jersey (note that some of them require that YOU pay the cost of the renovation, they are not free.)
It would be better to try to plan to do your own surprise renovations. So you have friends with tools and remodeling skills? Even just decluttering a room, slapping on a coat of paint in a fresh color, repositioning the furniture and adding some new accessories can transform a space. There are excellent books on remodelling projects for the novice (the Readers Digest series, available at most bookstores, is excellent.) I was a little older than you when I used such books and some basic tools to completely gut and remodel a full bathroom and my entire kitchen. Because I did all the work myself, the bath cost me only $1500 and the kitchen around $3500.
