Is buying a house from a home builder a bad investment? Compared to buying an older home?

Looking into buying my first house, and am very interested with M/I home builders. They have many nice new subdivisions around Columbus, OH. My only worry is that if I buy a house the value will depreciate over time. Is this something I should be concerned about? I appreciate any advice/ personal experience. thanks!

It depends on what you are looking for. With an older type house make sure that you get it fully checked out by a builder and pest control, there could be more problems than you think, also find out if it is in a flood area as it could then be hard to get insurance, also ask to see the section 32 as this tells you if the owners had wanted to build or renovate or any other problems they may have had. As for a new property if the price is right and in a good area then the price by rights should go up, however always check what the extras costs like, fancier tap fittings, better carpet etc. Also remember that you will have to put in your own garden and any sort of sheds so that will be more expense. Hope this helps and good luck with your decision.
