We recently moved out of a rental house that we added decorative Rock in the yard as it was only dead grass and dirt. The landlord deducted from our Secruity for rock removal. We called to inquire abou this and mentioned that when n we moved in,the carpets had been clean but the master bedroom carpet was saturated with cat urine. (We called the owner when we moved in and told him the stench was awful but he said it when the carpet dried, the smell would be gone. Well, it wasnt so we tiled the master bedroom at our own expense) When we brought this up to the landlord and told him it was an improvement, , he told my husband there was nothing he could do about it because he was only the renter, to F off and hung up on him. IS there anything we can do to get the money bacjk that he withheld from our deposit of rock removal??
He can charge you for the rock removal AND to fix the flooring of the master bedroom. You had no right to make alterations to someone else's property without their permission. It's not an improvement, it's damage, and you're liable for it.
Next time, ask before you ruin someone else's property. You cannot install whatever you feel like; there is a reason why landlord's use carpet and not tile.
