ROOFING PERMIT

You need a Roofing Permit, for any repairs or re-roofing. Replacing your roof is expensive, so insurance companies and lenders require this to be inspected. It makes sense for these companies to protect their investments, but the homeowner benefits, too. Be sure you check with the building department to see what you need. In many states, if there's only one course of shingles you may be able to roof over, which would eliminate the need for a roofing permit. If you DO need a permit, the inspector will want to see: • The sheathing, if the roof is brand new or you are having a tear-off of the old roofing. • The felt or material you'll be using under the shingles. Inspectors like to see the types of fasteners used and the overlap. • The final roof. They like to see how the shingles meet valleys, overlap and ridges. Inspectors must sign off on the permit before Final Inspection. HOME | BACK | TOP
