Just wondering if anyone knows if the homeowners pay for these remodels or does the show? I know some shows state that the people have a budget of so much but others make it seem like it's done for free for allowing them to do a show on them.
The HGTV shows that offer redesign/remodels are on your ticket not theirs. You get the TV exposure but nothing more. When Vern Yip designs a room for special couples they only pay for the one room. He always does another room as a surpirse so I can't imagine that it's at the owner's expense. But his choices of families are special people who have given something to their communities or have special circumstances. All the other designers have up front budgets from the homeowners to do their rooms. I have contacted many of the designers at HGTV to determine their fees and have been given them with the thought that my budget also figures into their fees. These shows are no different than hiring your own designer. The days of “Trading Spaces” are over but they did some really awful things to people's homes so it's no surprise. There are no free renovations.
