What kind of remodeling will increase the value of your home

Homeowners seeking to improve the value of their homes should consider which renovations offer the best bang for the buck. In the short term, no renovation cost is fully recovered. However, certain updates are prized by home buyers, including six with at least an 80 percent return on your investment, according to a Remodeling magazine report.

Home Siding

Vinyl siding will give you an 87.2 percent return on your investment (ROI). Choose fiber cement instead and your ROI is 88 percent; or 83.1 percent for foam-backed vinyl.

Window Replacement

New wood windows offer an 85.3 percent ROI. Choose vinyl and you still receive an 83.7 percent return.

Minor Kitchen Remodel

No need to redo the entire kitchen, but updating cabinet faces, counters, and the flooring can help. Minor updates can yield a return of 85.2 percent on your investment.

Bathroom Remodel

Home shoppers want a nice kitchen, but the bath is important too. Any remodeling of an existing bath offers an average 84.9 percent ROI.

Two-Story Addition

Perhaps one of the most costly renovations you can make to your home, raising the roof can pay off. An average 83.2 percent ROI is realized.

Major Kitchen Remodel

Let’s say a minor kitchen remodel is not enough for you. Gutting the kitchen and starting over can be beneficial as well, returning 80.4 percent on your investment.
